THE LANDLADY

THE LANDLADY

Based on the story The Landlady by Roald Dahl, i think the Landlady want to kill Billy and make him as a taxidermy collection. Meanwhile it becomes clear to me that she most likely stuffed Mr Mulholland and Mr Temple . Besides, the Landlady acted secretive when mystery surrounding the boys’ names becomes more and more tantalizing. She also refused to directly answer any question about the two men and seems uninterested in helping Billy determine how he knows of her previous guests. Although she appears to be generous by offering him a very reasonable price for a room and breakfast, the plot twist reveal that she is a cruel woman. In addition, she acted weird when she makes several comments about the boy appearance. This is shown when she comparing Billy's teeth with  Mr. Mulholland and talk about Mr Temple skin that is smooth and just like a baby’s.  It also become strange when she describes Mr Temple using the past tense. At the end of the story, it becomes clear that the landlady has poisoned Billy.

In my opinion, the tragic news that Patrick give Mary is he want to divorce his pregnant wife. Furthermore, at the beginning of the story  everything was not right when Patrick come home, he act strange by breaking of their usual routine. Further convince that Patrick leaving his wife is when he promise to support her financial and insist Mary not make anything that might reflect badly on his position as a police. Her first instinct when Patrick  wanted to divorce was not to believe what her husband told. This is shown when she decides to act as if nothing has happened hoping that this will somehow cause her problem to go away. Consequently, this situation impacts her emotionally that she felt shock, sad and frustrated. Thus, she ends up by killing his husband with no regret.
